This listing is for a made-to-order scale model three-rail fence, either stained or painted. This fence is in scale for most Breyer Mini Whinnies, Micro scale artists resins/pewters, and S scale model trains. (The horses, bases, and other fences are not included.)
This fence is designed to work with my 3x5 bases with Template A post holes. Technically, you can use a Template A fence in a Template D base (since a D is just two A's stuck together) but it will look silly, as you can see in the last photo. I have built jigs and other tools that allow me to make sure all fences are identical enough to be interchangeable.
I've shown the listing with several models so you can get a feel for the size. (The larger scale micros like Jewel normally work with the 1:48 scale fences.)
I have all of the Maggie Bennett Monthly Micros and most of the Breyer Mini Whinnies so if there is a specific model you would like to see the fence with, drop me a line and I’ll be happy to provide photos. I also do custom orders, if you are interested!
This fence is 5 inches long and 15/16 inches tall with 1 1/2 inches between the posts. It's made from basswood using 3/32 inch square dowels for the posts and 3/32 inch wide and 1/16 inch thick planks for the rails.
The top to the top rail is 7/8 high, the spacing between the rails is 3/16, and the height to the bottom of the bottom rail is 3/16.
If you prefer, I can use 3/32 x 1/32 rails, which would be 6 x 2, but the fence will not be as sturdy since the 1/32 is much more flexible (and fragile!) than the 1/16.
In 1:64 scale, this fence is 5 feet high and there are 8 feet between the metal posts. The posts are 6 x 6 and the rails are 6 x 4. The top of the top rail is 4 feet 8 inches high (so a little low) and the spacing between the rails is 1 foot. The spacing from the ground to the bottom of the bottom rail is 1 foot, so right at the suggested max.
Most of Maggie's Micros are 1:54 so at that scale, this fence may look a little small. It is 4 feet 3 inches high and there are 6 feet 9 inches between the posts. The posts are 5 x 5 and the rails are 5 x 3. The top of the top rail is 4 feet high and the spacing between the rails is 10 inches. The spacing from the ground to the bottom of the bottom rail is 10 inches.
The fence is sanded, assembled with wood glue, and painted with acrylics or stained. It has been coated with matte varnish so you can wipe it with a damp cloth, but it can't soak in water. The metal pegs are made from pins that have been cut and sanded, but are still quite poke-y because of the narrow diameter. It's relatively sturdy, so it should hold up to basic wear and tear, but is not intended for children.
This fence is meant for adults (or young adults) who are using it for a display or Photo Show setup.
This fence will not stand on its own. It needs something you can stick the wire peg legs into, like floral foam or one of my awesome grass bases! If you would prefer the fence to come without posts, just let me know.
