Description
Charming chestnut pinto horse by listed ceramicist Rudolf Struck(1861-1935) of Munich, Germany. His work is considered part of the Art Nouveau and Jugendstil movements that were transitioning through Europe at the time. His appreciation of nature is reflected in his delightful animal figurines and this lovely work is an outstanding example. According to Wikipedia:
“Jugendstil ("Youth Style") was an artistic movement and the German counterpart of Art Nouveau that was active from about 1895 until about 1910.[1] The members of the movement were reacting against the historicism and neo-classicism of the official art and architecture academies. It took its name from the art journal Jugend founded by the German artist George Hirth.”
This piece is in wonderful condition for being 100 years old or possibly older! Beautiful coloring, very little crazing, wonderful attention to detail. There is a tiny flea bite out of the front edge of the left ear. Very hard to see. Stands about 4 7/8” tall x 4 3/4” wide. Signed on the bottom Struck Unarcra Germany.
